Lenovo Manufacturing Facility – Riyadh
Project Overview:
The Lenovo Manufacturing Facility in Riyadh is one of Saudi Arabia’s most significant technology and industrial developments. Established through a strategic partnership between Lenovo and ALAT, a Public Investment Fund (PIF) company, the project supports Saudi Vision 2030 by localizing advanced manufacturing and strengthening the Kingdom’s technology sector.
Located within the Riyadh Integrated Logistics Zone (RILZ), the facility is designed to manufacture laptops, desktop computers, and servers for regional and international markets. The project contributes to the development of local supply chains, creates highly skilled employment opportunities, and positions Saudi Arabia as a regional hub for advanced technology manufacturing.
KRON Firestop Supply Scope
KRON supplied passive fire protection systems from INCA Firestop Solutions for the Lenovo Manufacturing Facility. These systems were selected to maintain the fire-resistance integrity of fire-rated walls and floors by preventing the spread of fire, smoke, and hot gases through service penetrations and construction joints.
Fire Barrier Caulk Fire Sealant – INSS1440
INSS1440 is a water-based, one-component intumescent firestop sealant designed to restore the fire-resistance rating of penetrated fire-rated assemblies. Upon exposure to high temperatures, the material expands to seal openings created by cables, pipes, and other building services.
Global Certifications: UL 1479 (up to a 3-hour fire rating), FM Approved, ASTM E814, ULC S115
Packaging Options: Cartridge, sausage pack, 1-gallon pail, 5-gallon pail
Key Features:
- Intumescent technology that expands when exposed to fire.
- Prevents the spread of flames, smoke, and toxic gases.
- Excellent adhesion to most construction substrates.
- Paintable after curing.
- Halogen-free and asbestos-free.
- Easy application and maintenance.
- Suitable for both new construction and retrofit projects.
Ideal Applications:
- Cable penetrations.
- Metallic and non-metallic pipe penetrations.
- Fire-rated walls and floor assemblies.
- Construction and perimeter joints requiring fire protection.
Intumescent Strip – INFS0812 / INFS0822
2. INFS0812 – Intumescent Strip
The INFS0812 is a specialized intumescent strip engineered for rapid expansion when exposed to high temperatures. It plays a crucial role in sealing complex gaps, serving as a reliable barrier against fire, smoke, and toxic gases.
During a fire event, plastic pipes soften and eventually melt, creating openings that can allow flames and smoke to spread between compartments. INFS0812 expands rapidly when exposed to heat, filling these openings and restoring the fire-resistance performance of the assembly.
Key Features:
- Fast, straightforward installation process.
- Expands multiple times its original size during fire exposure for maximum sealing.
- Effectively prevents the passage of flames and hot gases.
- Manufactured utilizing cutting-edge expandable graphite technology.
- A core component for comprehensive passive fire protection systems.
Ideal Applications:
- Combustible plastic pipe penetrations.
- Custom firestop systems.
- Fire-rated doors, walls, and partition assemblies.
Coated Firestop Board – FP-05
3. FP05 – Firestop Board
For large-scale sealing requirements, the FP05 high-density mineral wool firestop board is the ultimate solution. Featuring a factory-applied intumescent coating, it is specifically designed to seal large service openings while preserving the integrity and fire resistance of fire-rated walls and floors.
Global Certifications: UL Listed, FM Approved
Key Features:
- Density: 160 kg/m³.
- Dimensions: 1200 × 600 × 50 mm.
- Delivers robust fire resistance for up to 2 hours.
- Intumescent coating expands up to 30 times its original thickness during a fire.
- Low VOC, odorless, and entirely halogen-free.
- Provides excellent acoustic insulation (STC rated).
- Forms a tight seal against smoke and air passage.
- Easy to cut, shape, and install directly on site.
- Proven service life exceeding 50 years.
Ideal Applications:
- Large cable penetrations and heavy cable trays.
- Complex pipe penetrations.
- Oversized mechanical and electrical service openings.
- Fire-rated wall and floor compartmentation.
Fire Protection Contribution
The supplied INCA Firestop systems played a critical role in preserving fire compartmentation throughout the Lenovo Manufacturing Facility. By restoring the fire-resistance rating of penetrated walls and floors, these systems help prevent the spread of fire, smoke, and toxic gases, ensuring compliance with passive fire protection requirements and enhancing overall life safety within the facility.
Through the successful supply of INSS1440 Fire Barrier Caulk, INFS0812 Intumescent Strip, and FP05 Coated Firestop Board, KRON contributed to the implementation of a comprehensive passive fire protection strategy that supports the project’s safety and regulatory objectives.
